Your wallet is the most-handled item in your everyday carry. It comes out dozens of times a day, sits in your pocket for hours, and takes more abuse than almost any other leather good you own. Choosing the right one matters — not just for function, but for the long-term satisfaction of carrying something that gets better with age.
Here's what to look for in a leather EDC wallet in 2026, and what separates the great ones from the merely good.
Before we get into specific styles, let's talk about what actually matters in a daily carry wallet:
The classic bifold, done right, is still one of the best EDC wallet formats. A well-designed slim bifold holds 4–6 cards and folded cash without excessive bulk. Look for one with a cash slot that doesn't require you to fold bills more than once.
Best for: Those who carry a mix of cards and cash and want a traditional wallet feel with minimal bulk.
Card wallets have exploded in popularity as people carry fewer cards and more contactless payment options. A good card wallet holds 3–5 cards and has a cash slot or money clip. They're typically under 8mm thick when loaded.
Best for: Minimalists, front-pocket carriers, and those who primarily use digital payments.
Trifolds offer more organization — more card slots, a dedicated ID window, multiple cash compartments. The tradeoff is thickness. A loaded trifold is significantly bulkier than a bifold or card wallet.
Best for: Those who need to carry many cards and prefer organization over slim profile. Not ideal for front-pocket carry.
Long wallets (also called continental wallets) hold bills flat without folding, along with many cards and often a coin pocket. They're typically carried in a jacket pocket or bag rather than a pants pocket.
Best for: Those who carry cash frequently and prefer bills unfolded, or those who carry their wallet in a bag or jacket.
For EDC wallets specifically, we recommend:
The best EDC wallet is the one you'll actually carry every day — which means it needs to fit your pocket, hold what you need, and be made well enough to last. We'd rather you carry a slim, well-made bifold for ten years than a feature-packed wallet that ends up in a drawer after six months.
