Frequently Asked Questions

We generally operate on a first come first serve basis. We build many items in batches. Sometimes restocking material can effect your turn around time. As your order rolls in, it is placed on a list. As to when we begin processing your order and get it shipped, it is based on how many orders we have received in the same time frame and prior. We can only give estimates as to when you may receive your order. Please watch the sidebar here on the FAQ page to see what the estimated current wait time is. You will receive an email alert from USPS with your tracking information once your item ships.
All packages within the USA are shipped USPS Priority Mail. This comes with tracking info, limited insurance and typically takes 2 days to arrive. All packages shipped internationally can be either Priority Mail, or First Class. First Class is the most affordable and runs around the $15 mark, but it comes with a greater risk. I always suggest Priority Mail for International shipping, as First Class packages don’t always come with tracking, and I have had packages disappear in the mail after leaving the US. I cannot be held liable for post office failures. So I urge you to protect your investment with Priority Mail shipping. International Orders should always include a shipping phone number so the courier can reach you. So if you want to increase the odds of receiving your package, please leave a shipping phone number. International orders may incur a customs tax that the buyer will be responsible for. You will need to contact your local customs office to find out what the import tax that your country charges from USA exported goods.
All items are handmade to order. So “in stock” only means that I have the materials required to make that item. Occasionally on social media we will mention that we have something built that will ship immediately.
We do not offer any initial embossing. We suggest taking your item to your local laser engraver to receive the best initialing possible.
Check the descriptive post in the Journal for more info on the differences between these leathers.
We're currently unable to offer any custom work. Shop orders of our regular product line will always come first, and we're currently trying to keep these orders at a respectable turn around time.

ESTIMATED WAIT TIME

2-4 Weeks
We build most everything to your order in the order that they arrive.

Port Wallets typically ship in less than a week.

Basic Leather Care

Any natural vegetable tanned leather will require a protectant of some sort. We suggest Craft and Lore all natural Leather Balm on any natural veg tan products that you purchase. It moisturizes and protects the leather and it smells great. Put a coat on your most used leather goods once or twice a year. Horween or Harness leather is usually fairly well protected with wax and tallow that is in the leather from the tanning process, but may need some additional conditioner after a few years of service.

For the most part, you want to keep water and dirt away, while making sure the leather doesn't dry out which could lead to cracking. It takes a long time (years) to get to a point of drying and cracking, so you shouldn't worry about that for awhile. If down the road you find any leather of yours getting very dry, a coat of mink or neatsfoot oil will also help bring it back.

ABOUT THE MAKE & MATERIAL

By purchasing these handmade goods from Craft and Lore, you understand the nature of handmade goods as containing slight variations due to the maker being human. As they say, it is the subtle imperfections of handmade that make it perfect. By purchasing my leather goods you are also stating that you understand that leather is an organic material, and therefore can show scars or other marks of the animal's life. These marks and variations are what make leather a beautiful medium as every mark tells a story and gives your leather good a unique identifying mark. What you are buying here are heritage goods. By heritage goods, we are referring to heirlooms that will be cherished for a lifetime. These are things that are built to be bought once. They're built with the heart and soul of the craftsman who applied his skill and knowledge to bring you this heritage good, just as it has been done throughout the history of the world.

As a craftsman, it is my desire to have my work speak for itself. That being said I spend the time required searching for providers of the best materials available from American and European sources. I hand saddle stitch all my small goods using waxed polycord sourced from Maine, USA. If I ever come across a better leather or hardware, I will update my product line with it. And with the best materials there comes a higher price. Benjamin Franklin was quite right when he said "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten". In the years to come you'll not remember just how much you paid for an American made heritage good, only that the superior quality is held up and you’ll not need to buy it again repeatedly.
