Frequently Asked Questions

Our most popular wallet models ship within a couple days of your order. The Port Wallet, Enfold Wallets, Insider Wallet and a few others. For all else, we generally operate on a first come first serve basis. We build many items in batches. Sometimes restocking material can effect your turn around time. As your order rolls in, it is placed on a list. As to when we begin processing your order and get it shipped, it is based on how many orders we have received in the same time frame and prior. We can only give estimates as to when you may receive your order. Please watch the sidebar here on the FAQ page to see what the estimated current wait time is. You will receive an email alert from FedEx or USPS with your tracking information once your item ships.
All packages within the USA are typically shipped FedEx Express which comes with tracking info, limited insurance and typically takes 2 days to arrive. All packages shipped internationally can be either FedEx, USPS Priority Mail, or USPS First Class. First Class is the most affordable and runs around the $15 mark for many countries, but it comes with a greater risk of loss or holding by customs. FedEx for International shipping promises better service and is rarely held by customs, as First Class packages don’t always come with tracking, and I have had packages disappear in the mail after leaving the US. Craft and Lore cannot be held liable for post office failures. Please protect your investment with FedEx shipping. International Orders should always include a shipping phone number so the courier can reach you. So if you want to increase the odds of receiving your package, please leave a shipping phone number. International orders may often incur a customs tax that the buyer will be responsible for. You will need to contact your local customs office to find out what the import tax that your country charges from USA exported goods.
Missing Packages Policy: For any package that is lost in the mail due to Carrier fault, or any fault of the Craft and Lore shipping, we will offer replacement or refund. For packages that have been marked as "delivered" by the Carrier, but the customer claims it was not received, we offer a order replacement for US based customers.

Many items are handmade to order. So “in stock” only means that we have the materials required to make that item. Popular wallets (Port Wallet, Enfold, Insider Wallet) are typically built and ready to ship a day after ordering. Occasionally on social media we will mention that we have something built that will ship immediately.
We do not offer any monogram / initial embossing. We suggest taking your item to your local laser engraver to receive the best monogramming possible.
Check the descriptive post in the Journal for more info on the differences between these leathers. You can also learn about Horween Shell Cordovan in this article.
We're currently unable to offer any custom work. Shop orders of our regular product line will always come first, and we're currently trying to keep these orders at a respectable turn around time. What's a custom order? Anything that isn't shown in the product listing photos when you order.

Basic Leather Care

Any natural vegetable tanned leather will require a protectant of some sort. We suggest Craft and Lore all natural Leather Balm on any natural veg tan products that you purchase. It moisturizes and protects the leather and it smells great. Put a coat on your most used leather goods once or twice a year. Horween or Harness leather is usually fairly well protected with wax and tallow that is in the leather from the tanning process, but may need some additional conditioner after a few years of service.

For the most part, you want to keep water and dirt away, while making sure the leather doesn't dry out which could lead to cracking. It takes a long time (years) to get to a point of drying and cracking, so you shouldn't worry about that for awhile. If down the road you find any leather of yours getting very dry, a coat of mink or neatsfoot oil will also help bring it back.

If your purchase wasn't what you were expecting or looking for, please read the terms for a qualified return and complete the Returns Form. We do not accept returns on international orders, or any order that had custom requests or modifications including thread color.

By purchasing these handmade goods from Craft and Lore, you understand the nature of handmade goods as containing slight variations due to the maker being human. As they say, it is the subtle imperfections of handmade that make it perfect. By purchasing my leather goods you are also stating that you understand that leather is an organic material, and therefore can show scars or other marks of the animal's life. These marks and variations are what make leather a beautiful medium as every mark tells a story and gives your leather product a unique identifying mark. What you are buying here are heritage goods. By heritage goods, we are referring to heirlooms that will be cherished for a lifetime. These are things that are built to be bought once. They're built with the heart and soul of the craftsman who applied his skill and knowledge to bring you this heritage good, just as it has been done throughout the history of the world.

As a craftsman, it is our desire to have our work speak for itself. That being said, we spend the time required searching for providers of the best materials available from American and European sources. We hand saddle stitch most of our small goods using waxed polycord sourced from Maine, USA. Occasionally we come across a better leather or hardware and update the product line with it. And with the best materials there comes a higher price. Benjamin Franklin was quite right when he said "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten". In the years to come you'll not remember just how much you paid for an American made heritage good, only that the superior quality is held up and you’ll not need to buy it again repeatedly.

You accept that leather is an organic material that may show signs of the animals life, such as markings or subtle scars that do not affect the function and durability of the product. You also accept that colors across monitors may be different, as well as the potential different color results from the tannery drum dye process.

If for any reason you are not satisfied with the quality of the product we are delivering, we will either replace your product or provide a full refund if it is not a personalized item. The product will need to be in its original condition and the return postage will need to be shown as within 5 days of receiving the product. We are always interested in customer concerns and actively look for feedback or critique on how to better build products. We welcome reviews on the product page of your purchased item. This helps us continue to better serve you, who in turn support our small workshop. Please note that you are responsible for providing the correct information regarding the product you buy. Whether it is the correct custom leather belt measurement, or your decision on which color leather and hardware you choose to go with. You are responsible for any additional shipping that occurs due to incorrectly placed orders.

By ordering from us, you agree to accept our product with our maker's mark. Requests to withhold our mark on your order notes will not be honored, and any shipping involved in returning the product will be your responsibility.

International orders may incur a customs tax that the buyer will be responsible for. You will need to contact your local customs office to find out what the import tax that your country charges from USA exported goods. Any international shipment that is refused by the recipient, will be considered forfeit to the customer at their expense under our "no return for international orders" policy. Most customs agencies will charge us to return the shipment, or charge us to destroy the package.

For questions about shipping, wholesale or bulk orders, leather types, and turnaround times, please check the FAQ.
